Print with the design facing upwards of course! Otherwise your makerbot will have to deal with some crazy overhangs!
Inspired by the architecture of the game Deus Ex Human Revolution. I am trying to produce a bracelet based on the same design now...so I thought I'd produce this first to get a hang of it! =)

I too am enraptured by the architectural and interior design of the game. I have taken the basic premise of your object and made it into a printable mock-up of a full-sized wall sconce. I'm test printing it now but should have results in a little while.
Nice! I've been trying to model a bracelet in fits and starts using Solidworks, but it all looks too mundane. Also wrapping a pattern onto another body is difficult. It's gotta be slightly random, yet an ordered geometric. What software are you using to make the sconce? :-[
