Description

This is a sound moderator aka "silencer" for an airgun or paintball gun. Pump-up airguns in particular make a lot of noise as the air rushes out, and the moderator cotains a series of what are called "K Baffles" (see cutaway one in the photo) that slow it down so that it does not make a sharp >Crak!< The pellet goes unimpeeded down the middle, and may even slightly gain velocity. This design is remarkably efficient.

Supersonic projectiles will always go crack anyway and a silencer is pretty pointless with them. Firearms are likely to blow the silencer to bits.

Instructions

The STL file supplied is to fit a .177"/4.5mm airgun with an 18mm external barrel diameter (Zoraki pistol). The SCAD file is parametric and allows the diameters, number of baffles and so forth to be varied to suit your requirement.

Print the silencer in quality ABS or Diamond Age Solutions' IMPLA as it has to hold a fair bit of pressure. Sacrifice build strength for beauty, and do not use support material.

WITH THE GUN UNLOADED and checked, fit the silencer and look down the bore to ensure things are central. Ideally, fasten the silencer in place with a hose clamp to avoid it becoming misaligned.

Finally, although silencers on airguns and paintball guns are generally legal you may wish to confirm the legality with a trusted authority - I am not a lawyer and neither are most of the folks who will undoubtedly post below. It's OK here in New Zealand, but then we're allowed to make moonshine and grow our own tobacco.

There are suppressed pellet rifles available for sale in the U.S. A key attribute is permanent attachment to the barrel such that it cannot be transferred to something else.

Interesting that there are almost 100 downloads and no one has clicked the "I Made One" button O:-)

most people never print it, and when they do are usually too lazy to upload an I made one photo.

I'll add to the caution: Fair warning that this should not be modified for any other purpose. I dont know about airguns, but if someone were to afix this to the end of a firearm, A) you're an idiot and B) you'll face a $25k fine and 10 years in prison (technically for a tax evasion). Even if its just for "fun". BATFE doesnt really joke about this kinda thing. And people WILL report you. Most people are kinda weird about these things.

But I say well done! I like it and although I dont have an airpistol, I might just print one for moral support! I've played with some designs, but never printed. Maybe this will be a little motivation! Cheers!

Q: Are Paintball and/or Airgun Sound Suppressers NFA firearms?

The terms
“firearm silencer” and “firearm muffler” mean any device for silencing, muffling, or diminishing the report of a portable firearm, including any combination of parts, designed or redesigned, and intended for use in assembling or fabricating a firearm silencer or firearm muffler, and any part
intended only for use in such assembly or fabrication.

Numerous paintball and airgun silencers tested by ATF’s Firearms Technology Branch have been determined to be, by nature of their design and function, firearm silencers. Because silencers are NFA weapons, an individual wishing to manufacture
or transfer such a silencer must receive prior approval from ATF and pay the required tax. See also “What are the required transfer procedures for an individual who is not qualified as a manufacturer, importer, or dealer of NFA firearms?” and “How does an individual obtain authorization to ma
ke an NFA firearm?” for application details.

If you have any further questions as to the classification of a paintball or airgun silencer, please send a written request to ATF’s Firearms Technology Branch.
