Talking Head
Description
This is a box headed guy that talks when you pick him up. You can record a new message for the boxman to say and leave him around for your friends to pick up. It is like a piece of you is always there, until somebody else records over you and you are gone. Here is a link to a youtube clip of it saying some nerdy things! youtube.com/watch?v=m-OaE8rOz_o
Instructions
Make a box-shaped head with some eye-holes and a nose hole for LEDs. Leave an open space for the mouth, so the speaker has some room to be heard. Hack a radioshack speaker module to be activated by a photoresister. Insert the module into the box. Glue the speaker to the back of the face of the box (it gets great volume this way!). I cobbled together a 9V power source for the module by stringing together some 3V coin cells. This project should take you anywhere from 1 to 1000 hours and then PRESTO! The Talker.
Also, I hooked up the blue LED straight to the tabs on the speaker, so it is responding directly to the vocal output. The yellow LEDs for the eyes are soldered directly to the Radio Shack sound module and replace a tiny surface mount red LED. They blink on and off as the recorder is playing and also light up when you depress the RECORD button and stay lit until the memory is full or you release the button (about 20 seconds or so).
