Lucy the cat
Description
It is designed to be easily printable, even with 0% fill and no external support.
For more info on modelling for 3d printing in Maya, please check out my site: zoltanb.co.uk/tips-and-tricks-on-preparing-complex-models-for-3d-printing/
Give it a go, it only takes ~12 minutes to print this kitty! (on an Ultimaker)
Let me know what you think,
all comments/criticism welcome...
as long as you don't call my cat fat! :)
New!
lucycat-large.stl added for printing bigger, shinier and cuter cats!
Higher res, also the tail has been modified for better printing.
Instructions
- Perimeters: 1
- Solid Layers: 0
- Fill density: 0
it you use "Solid Layers: 0", it would make a perfect finger puppet, too! :)
For larger prints:
use lucycat-large.stl, it is smoothed and modified slightly.
Try:
- Perimeters: 2
- Solid Layers: 10
- Fill density: 0

hi! you have a nice looking kitty (not fat at all) XD i printed one but now everyone wants me to print them a cat
one thing i'd like to ask...my cat has a vertical scar over its left eye and down (from where the bed lowers each layer), i noticed from the pictures here those cats have no scars...can that be moved to the back of the kitty or something like that? im using Cura RC4
Hi Vevcra,
The position of the "scar" (which runs along at the back of my cat) depends on your gcode generator and the config you are using.
I found that even the smallest change will move the scar, so you might be able to move it simply by scaling the cat up by a couple of percent.
Alternatively, try tweaking the layer height.
Let me know if it worked! :)
How did you get that texture with PLA?
I used translucent pla, used Slic3r for creating the gcode. Here are the settings I used:
filament_diameter = 2.94
fill_density = 0
first_layer_height_ratio = 1
first_layer_temperature = 180
infill_acceleration = 50
infill_every_layers = 1
infill_speed = 30
layer_height = 0.1
nozzle_diameter = 0.4
perimeter_acceleration = 25
perimeter_speed = 20
perimeters = 1
small_perimeter_speed = 10
solid_infill_speed = 30
solid_layers = 0
support_material = 0
support_material_tool = 0
temperature = 180
travel_speed = 90

Having some trouble printing the ears. They keep turning out looking like small beer cans instead of ears. Any setting suggestions for skeinforge?
I had the same look when I set the printing speed too high. Try overiding the speed to 40% in replicatorG when it reaches the top of the head.
Otherwise, try lowering the layer height, it should give you extra detail, the ears should come out better, too.
Let me know if it worked! :)
