Description

Objects created from the remix project 'We Met Heads On' vimeo.com/43848831

Made with Processing.

The video titled 'We Met Heads On' is my remix of the 3D scan hackathon at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY organised by Makerbot. The public were invited to scan artifacts to then modify and 3d print derivatives. I found 'decimation study - met heads' by scotta3d which is a derivative from another thingiverse user tbuser, and to continue the lineage of derivatives, I have placed the low-polygon heads from scotta3d into a Processing sketch that distorts the meshes in realtime in response to sound and outputs the modified stl objects. The soundwave is analysed from the streaming audio and used to force the mesh to twist to the strength of the soundwave. Performed and recorded in real-time.

Instructions

There are currently 2 heads, (1.1) more glitchy than the other (1.2) (The glitchy one may be difficult to print)

You may want to carve out for yourself a booleaned cylinder before printing as this is a solid object. I decided to leave that step out so that you can make a derivative that suits your prefered wall thickness and overall size. I don't have a printer myself, so I'd be really grateful if you could print a copy and send me a photo of it! I'd credit you on my website for producing the first protoypes.

I really enjoyed making these objects, finding which of your favourite songs makes good mesh distortions and pressing 'save' everytime it does something cool is way better than using rhino! I'll try to get some more derivatives uploaded.
