Summary

This is a Triceratops scan from artec3d.com's gallery. I reduced the mesh from the original and converted the file to STL.

This model requires supports, but the support marks aren't too much of a problem since they're out of sight on the underside and the skin texture also hides them.

I kept the mesh resolution high enough that you should be able to scale this even larger with good results. The size of this model is about 7 inches long by 3 inches high, and I estimate that my Replicator 2 could print it up to 50% larger.

I also printed it at 0.15mm and it was super easy to remove the supports. Just a little bit of indentations from the support, but it was at the bottom. Looks amazing, and my students are wowed by it!

Nice example! What Material did you use?

Thanks! That's the gold filament from Faberdashery.

Awesome model. It printed perfectly at 0.15mm and looks amazing.

This model creates an AMAZING print. It's like it's a toy in a store! I think it's because of the texture (the knobby texture on the skin).
SO I want to ask: how was this produced!? Was this modeled by someone? Or scanned? How, specifically?
Thanks!

The source model came from Artec3D's example library, so I assume it's a scan made using one of their scanners. I don't know where the model they used came from originally though, sorry.
I used Blender and MeshLab to reduce the resolution and convert to STL.

Awesome! I'll HAVE to make one when I can work on my printer. Which will be a few months away. sigh..
