Description

I could't find my 1/4" NPT tap and I didn't want to spend a ton on brass fittings so I threw together this quick 1/2" NPT to 1/4" NPT adapter. I did it in OpenScad using the great "poor mans screw library". Took about 10 minutes to throw together and 30 minutes to print on my MakerBot (w/ Acceleration).

By request - I uploaded the .scad after adding a few comments to it. You will also need to download the screw library that this is a derivative of. Note that the threads in this library are not tapered so technically it's not NPT. At some point I might modify it again to add tapered threads but for now it works fine with teflon tape.

Instructions

I printed this "strong" with 3 shells and 30% infill @ .3 mm layer height.

Goal is for it to be water-tight in it's application.

The threads fit nice and tight...as is desired.

It seeped a tiny bit in application - so I took it off and gave it a very quick dip/wipe in acetone. This sealed it up. Don't over tighten!

The Ultimaker's 1/4" bowden filament tube clamp screws into this nicely.  Although the tube clamp is originally a plumbing part for water supply tubing.  It's all NPT.  So one can integrate this piece  to any 3D printer DIY build where a PTFE tube clamp will be mounted.

Any chance you could upload the openscad file so others could modify it if need so be?

On it's way....Just need to clean it up - it's definitely not parametric :D

Nice, making a self watering/siphoning system? ;)

Yes! It's to keep the chickens watered. I already have an automated door I designed to let them in and out in the morning and a treadle feeder that holds several days of food....If I could only automate the egg collection :D
