Interlocking Chess Pieces
Description
Pieces for one side of a chess game, which lie flat and interlock with each other.
Instructions
Print two copies at a scale appropriate for the board you intend to use (you may also need to adjust $gap to be the minimum distance you can print two things next to each other without them sticking together). Either print the two copies in different colors, or paint one or both in different colors. I printed in white ABS and painted one copy with black nail polish. It may be necessary to sand the bottom of some pieces to get them to stand upright.

If you put:
projection(cut=false)
before the translate and union function for the set you can output a file that should be able to be converted to a laser cutting format, for wood, acrylic etc.

Cool, I didn't know about that feature of OpenSCAD :) Indeed, this might work as a laser cut thing, but I don't have a laser cutter, so I wouldn't really know. I have a feeling that laser cut material might have to be too thin for the pieces to stand up reliably. Even these plastic pieces are a little on the thin side.
