Description

I'm futurejames and I have a hoarding problem. Namely, hard drives. Just can't seem to throw them away. I also needed a turntable for some 3d scanning -- nothing automatic just something I could turn by hand.

Instructions

- Rip apart hard drive. Remove the innards (platters), but leave the bearing inside and the tall center hub (in some drives you don't have a choice).
- Print out this platter. It was tricky for me to lift off the painter's tape after. If you don't have anything at hand to make it easier, try swearing at it for lubricant.
- Carefully put the platter on the center hub. Its going to be an extremely tight fit. I found it easier to put the platter flat on a hard surface and push the drive into it. Be careful to keep it level, its not going to work as a turntable if it wobbles like a broken record player.
- Remember its not really hoarding if you put it to good use! :D

Changed to more restrictive license due to Makerbot legal changes. Sorry!

I was just looking for one of these. Brilliant idea!

Nice idea. I have the same problem, I have around 30 hard drives. I like to use the magnets for projects.
