Description

Impress your buddies with this Bad-A** F-18 Model.

It's a 1/125th scale model of the real thing.

To make it 'printable' WITHOUT SUPPORT, I've broken it up into three pieces that will need to be glued together.

Instructions

1) Print all the parts
2) Glue together
3) Impress friends by putting on your flight jacket while you drink at the local watering hole while singing great balls of fire
4) ...
5) Profit?

I printed this with the following:

Mendel Prusa, v2
3mm .5 BudaSchnozzle Hot End, Black Filament
Slic3r 8.4.0

2.0mm Layer Height
2 perimiters, 3 solid layers, .5 fill density

I used a Brim of 10mm to make sure i had 0 warping

Printed at 50mm/s

Took me about 6 hours total print time.

**For those that think they can do a better job slicing this... I've uploaded a full stl for the f18...

wings would print much better with 'mouse ears' at the ends.

Can you please do an A-10 next?

Oh dear sweet Jesus. You tagged this thing "f16"? Oh god, oh god. Divinity has been soiled. AAAAAAAA *runs into bathroom and washes eyes out with soap* OH GOD IT BURNS... AAAAA...

Avoid tragedy like this. Don't tag an F-18 as an F-16. Use hyphens. One better: build F-16s instead, give the 18 the ignorance it deserves. ;)

(Yes, huge F-16 fanboy here. In my surrounding area, there are *counts*... 6 F-16 posters, plus one on my PC wallpaper, plus my car's F-16 license plate.
Obsessed?)

That said, I would love you forever if you did an F-16. If you're not too much of an F-18 geek. They are kinda polar opposites after all... haha. :)

I've worked extensively with both from a close air support standpoint - can't say I would ever prefer the F-16 to the F-18, especially with respect to take off weight (which roughly equates to weapon loadout) and range (which equates to time on station).  The F-18 has nearly 10,000 lbs more takeoff weight and about 60nm of increased range (prior to either aircraft bolting on drop tanks).

The F-16 is a great low-cost export bird though, much like the old A-4.

Ok... made, and pre-split a printable F-16

Print it out and post a pic when you're done!

F- are all awesome. I'll just release a pack that has F18, F16, F15 and harrier... I've already done them all anyway.

I'll just leave slicing to everyone else using netfabb.

Can you upload the plane in a single STL, so I can try different cuts?

I've uploaded a full stl for the f18 (f18full fixed.stl). Good luck with your cuts :)

The stand for this is pretty weak... thrown together quickly to give the f18 a place to park. I welcome derivatives that improve the stand design!

nice job! 8-)
