Description

Obviously I did not "make" this...just repurposed it for my Replicator. It is an inexpensive and instant solution to providing a hood for the Replicator.

I've only had my Replicator for about three weeks but I've already discovered the importance of having windows and a hood for better printing. I hand-cut the windows in Lexan and used the clips available on Thingiverse. However, I don't have ready access to a laser cutter to cut Lexan for the hood. So I set out to find a quick (and cheap) substitute for a hood so I can maximize the capabilities of this awesome machine as quickly as possible.
After some searching at nearby stores I came across this item that fits very nicely on top of the Replicator. Its witdth fits perfectly on top, and the depth allows free movement of the feedlines during print. Additionally, the rear overhang allows for enough airflow to keep a good internal temperature while elimiating a lot of the draft problems.

I think it is a good solution for those on a budget (

Instructions

This is a filebox available from OfficeMax (item OM99658)and its dimesions allow it to sit nicely on top of the Replicator. The width fits perfectly between the sidewalls while the depth allows for an overhang on the backside. Because it is made for files, the height provides plenty of clearance for the feedlines and wiring that go to the extruders.

Instructions:
1) find same or similar "clear" filebox with appropriate dimensions
2) put lid to the side for another re-purpose project
3) turn filebox upside down and put on top between the sidewalls, inside of the front wall, and let the rest overhang the back of the Replicator
4) print whatever you want with your new (and very cheap hood) protecting your print

I love it!

Nice! I have tried the same thing, but with smaller boxes which require making a slot in the back for the wires and filament tubes.

Nice re-purposing. However, may I suggest simply switching to PLA?

Bravo!

I too made side panels cut by hand,

I have not as yet made a top 'hat'.

not knocking making things with lasercutters etc.
repurposing is often a cheaper and more
expedient.

That's kinda brilliant. Ugly, but brilliant.
