Featured Thing!

Description

--This set has been redesigned and you can find the new versions here: thingiverse.com/dutchmogul/collections/pocket-tactics-sets--

Introducing Pocket-Tactics! A fast-paced, modular strategy board game that all fits in a tiny bag.

This is the second set in the series (for the first, head over here: thingiverse.com/thing:27257 ). We thought it would be fun to do some form of priests versus undead, and this set really stands out from the original. Of course, either faction from this set can play against either faction from the first, just as every future set will be compatible. We're really excited by the prospect of an ever-expanding universe of factions and locales from all genres (though we're going to thoroughly mine Fantasy first).

We'll be updating the progress of the game and provide expanded rules on our blog, so be sure and check us out there as well, and any of you makers should head over to check out our logo contest.

Oh, for sure. It goes Melee, Archery and Magic from top to bottom. Just checked, and its not showing up in the pdf for me either.

I really enjoyed play testing this set. It was our most immediately balanced set, never had to make many adjustments.

I just printed out a set on a Cupcake at .35 layer height. Needless to say, this really pushed the limits of this machine's resolution, but you can still tell who everybody is.

The Stats sheets for this set are missing the Ranged/Melee/ Magic symbols for the various stats, but I think I figured them out by looking at the original PT sheets.

If you are using Skeinforge in there is a Multiply Tab in the Profile.

Each piece was printed on my Makerbot Replicator at a .10 layer height with 100% infill. I printed them all one piece at a time, though you can feel free to try and print bricks of them. I had trouble doing so and it was probably due to my calibration.

So, for the core set as I've designed it, you'll need the following (and I've included the colors you should paint things, though this is only a suggestion):

-3 Simple Pilgrims (white)
-2 Sacred Gronks (white)
-2 Paladins (white)
-2 Light Bringers (white)
-1 High Priestess (white)
-1 Prophet (white)

-3 Shambling Corpses (purple)
-2 Shrouded Vassals (purple)
-2 Dread Riders (purple)
-2 Barrow Guards (purple)
-1 Barrow Lord (purple)
-1 Necromancer (purple)

-1 Temple of Light (White)
-1 Fallen Caer (Purple)
-5 Village Tiles (tan)
-4 Water Tiles (blue)
-7 Hill Tiles (light green)
-4 Ruin Tiles (Purple)

You'll also need a grip of six-sided dice (6 for each player) and it helps immensely if half of them are a different color. The rules are in super-beta mode (just finished writing them last night) so expect typos and confusion, but throw me some feedback and I can answer questions/clean up the document as we go. I'd definitely expect some of these abilities to change, but hey, who knows? ;-)

What's the easiest way to print multiple copies of this guy at the same time? I can't quite figure it out in MeshLab.

I've never used Meshlab, but you can just find the original model on Tinkercad, copy it and arrange a bunch together and download the stl from there. That's worked for me.

I'm having serious problems. This is three attempts at the high priestess. At some point everything is going fine and then it's like it skips layers and then I get a mess. Any ideas?

230 degrees, 100%, 0.1 layer height

dutchmogul on Aug 20, 2012 said:

Yeah, I had this same thing happen, though when I was printing in PLA. It looks like you;re using ABS though, no? I fixed this problem by kicking the temperature up, but that shouldn't be a problem if you're printing at 230. For me, every time it did that I had to remove the filament and re-thread it.

This is really cool. I'm new to this stuff though, so I'm still learning how to come up with these kind of things. What program are you using to make the 3d models?

dutchmogul on Aug 18, 2012 said:

Hey, much appreciated. Good for you, this is an excellent thing to get into, in my humble opinion ;-) I use Tinkercad to model these, which has an amazingly good user interface. If its any testament to the program's strengths, I've only been making 3D models for about 5 months now, had no experience prior to that. Check them out, their program is completely browser-based:

I really like how you guys are iterating through this game, I'm very excited to play this. This is outstanding.

Hey, much appreciated. Yeah, we're going to be expanding this thing quite a bit. I'd really like for one of the game's strengths to become the variety of choices of factions and game modes, etc. Let us know if you play it!

I really am digging that gronk!

Not that the other figures aren't cool.

Haha, thanks! Yeah, he's easily my favorite model in this set.

Nice! I would love to see a sci-fi version of that game...

Its on its way ;-) I want to hammer out a few soilld factions in Fantasy, then we're going "Multiverse" all over Pocket-Tactics.
