Description
This piece clamps onto the two parallel threaded rods between the Z motors on a prusa or mendel reprap 3d printer. Pass the filament through the hole on the top and into the extruder.
Can be used with dual extruders as well, only need to enlarge the top hole a bit if you're using 3mm filament.
The elliptical bell-like structure allows for free movement of the extruder along the X-axis without stressing the filament too much.

Like the idea, must think how to adapt this for a reel behind the printer. It does solve the problem of the filament rubbing against the top threaded rods nicely.
Thanks for your thoughts. I've been doing a bit of thinking for a spool solution myself. Tried Randyy's filament spool: http://www.thingiverse.com/thi... with this spindle: http://www.thingiverse.com/thi.... Things weren't sturdy enough and broke at the joints. The wheel wouldn't spin as desired. I've kludged the pieces together using zipties and have to manually uncoil enough filament for the piece I'm printing :(
