I wasn't really happy with the built in spool holder on the M2, so I came up with this one. I think it works much better for the heavier spools. It is designed to hold the 5lb and 1kg spools from Ultimachine. It uses the existing hardware, and I kept the upper bearing holder from the original mount to keep the filament guide in place.

This was modeled Rhino.

Edit: Added a 1" diameter version (untested)

Print, unbolt old, bolt on new. the original only uses three of the four bolts. When I put the new one on, I used the upper three since the bottom is in compression.

I used 3 perimeters and 25% infill with PLA and it feels like I could jump up and down on it. You can probably get away with a lot less.

What is that vertical metal bar?

The original M2 had a swinging bar that held the filament tube rather than having it fixed on the back corner over the x-axis limit switch. I kept the original design because sometimes the small filament spools are wound the opposite direction and thus the filament tube needs to be toward the front of the machine.

Smaller spool holder works great. Stock M2 spool holder works for stock filament from MakerGear but too short for other 3rd party spools. Design intent?

The smaller one works great for all spool sizes I've tried except for the new "pro filament" spools from Matter Hackers they only have 20MM holes. But except for those its great!

I uploaded one called "smaller" that has a 1" diameter. See if that one works.

I made your smaller version. holds like a rock, and perfect size for those JET spools you can buy on Amazon. Thanks for your hard work!

I have printed this thing and it works great with the Ultimaker spools that Makergear sells, thanks for sharing! I was wondering if you could possibly modify it to have a 1" outside diameter bar? because unfortunately all of my other spools have a smaller hole and do not fit the holder.. They are all 1.25" diameter, making 1" the perfect size for them, it should work with the larger spools too. I don't have Rhino or I would attempt to modify it myself.
