Description

Introducing the Miniature 1500 Megawatt Aperture Science Heavy Duty Super-Colliding Super Button. This high quality button is suitable for all your cube and button based testing needs! And will absolutely not cause the destruction of civilization (If Button does cause the end of civilisation fear not! as this is unlikely to happen again). I’m Cave Johnson, we’re done here.
This is a Miniature version of the cube button from Portal, the button is fully working and lights up. you can use it for anything that requires a big red button or just for decoration (we all have a printed companion cube on our desks, doesn’t cubey deserve a nice stand?)

Instructions

Parts can be printed without support. For the actual contact I used a standard micro switch on a piece of strip board, two 3MM red LEDs make the button glow. The springs I used came off a broken GPU it does work without them but not as well, springs from battery contacts should work just as well

Tried printing base, it was a mess, ran it though netfabb, worked awesome, so please before print, run netfabb

Looks great, but have you done any testing on the effects of prolonged exposure to the button?

Hmm, maybe a weighted storage cube cube could be made heavy enough to activate this...

Printing one off now, just got the button done in red, and printing the ring off in silver plastic. I also resized my companion cube to fit the button. will post a pic when done.

Excellent! I've been meaning to try to make a button for my cubes :)

This did come out rather fragile, though, in particular the little rectangles coming off the ring and button. Do you think it would work if I printed the ring and base as a single (fused) part? Is there a reason for their separation other than the different coloring?

Fantastic!

I'll redesign it to fit a cherry switch for a nice long throw!

Very nice design. I might have to print off a cube to justify my printing one of these.
