Anatomical Heart by akaziuna Oct 30, 2012

Description

Scan of a anatomical heart sculpture I had at my house. This started out as a cast glass piece by Miraim Ewers. Last year during Fab Academy I had made a negative of it using Flex wax and then cast it in hydrostone as shown here: blog.kaziunas.com/?p=5147 I also cast the heart in urethane rubber.

It was the rubber heart that I actually scanned with 123D Catch to create this model. The raw scan is available here: 123dapp.com/obj-Catch/Anatomical-Heart/915340

It was a while ago now, but I think this was printed with 10-15% infill and (maybe) two extra shells. Honeycomb structures used for the infill, but they are not visible in the finished print. The red translucent PLA I used is only translucent when a model's walls are very thin. When I print thick solid objects with it, the print appears opaque.

There appears to be no honeycomb? Is this just me?

Slice and print. I printed this in translucent red Ultimachine PLA at 0.25 on my Replicator. I think the detail would have come out better if I had used an opaque color.
