Hey! This thing is still a Work in Progress.
Files, instructions, and other stuff might change!
Ians Ultimate Ultimaker Extruder Upgrade
Description
Ians Ultimate Ultimaker Extruder Upgrade.
I have now adopted the new Berthos extruder upgrade for both my ultimaker printers.
And I must say, the improvement in realability and no more crashed out models, is simply amazing !!! Massive thanks to Bertho for the design and the ultimaker crew for making it official !
So onto the idea here.
Well before Berthos extruder became an official part of the ultimaker, I had played around with it and had trouble sourching the perfect components to make it work really well.
So I sat down and reinvented the wheel a little.
I technically dont need this idea any more, since Bertho has solved this magor problem simply and with style.
But even with that, I still want to have a bash at my concept and see if I can get it going ?
But because i dont have so much free time at the moment, I have decided to publish my idea and my models here and ask for help.
If any one is interested in my extruder concept, and has some cool suggestions or rethinks on the idea, then let me know.
I would like to have a working test example rolling before Christmas.
I have already sourced the washers for the wheels and also ribber belts with profiles on both side... from lego :-)
let the wacky building begin....

Those middle plates seem like asking for wear/jamming trouble. Rollers or nothing at all?
For that matter, could one just wrap each spindle with multiple loops of rubber band? Unless you have really firm tread material with roller backing, everything between the ends seems like it wouldn't help so much.
