Hi there, I am a technology journalist writing an article about 3D-printed cameras and would like to include some info about this lens and its making. I would love to ask you a few questions, could you please contact me at [email protected]

This is the best acrylic lens image I've ever seen! In general, is a rigid, mechanical polisher required to form the lens for imagery? Or, are defects (i.e., variable density "nuggets") in the acrylic the culprit when hand polishing?
Awesome post.

..that is, hand polished acrylic lens (you can find them in most disposable cameras) ... but we want BIG lenses!

I used both. Mechanical polished and hand polished.
Last pic is after mechanical polishing.
...We need to expose the lens production process.

I have carved in the NC machine a lens designed in original simulator.
The material is acrylic which is everywhere.
I finally completed if polished by hand.

  • NC machine is Roland MODELA MDX-40 -
  • This simulator made by Rhinoceros and grasshopper (plugin) -

So cool!  What'd you make the lens out of?  Blown glass?

In the description he says it is acrylic and also the last pic does look like acrylic.
