I built a x3g using High profile, raft and supoort, and on the third or forth layer, it starts to get hairy and I have no idea why... this was with Makerware, I will now try using ReplicatorG. Could you send me your x3g file so I can test if it is a file problem?
I actually printed this two different ways ("high" setting, 51 degrees rotated):
a.) Raft + Supports
b.) Raft only
(a) came out well, it was just a bit of an adventure "free-ing" my minion from the cage of supports, haha. I think it took ~6 hours to print.
(b) came out reasonably well! The bottom of the arms are wirey (e.g. loose plastic 'ribbons' are visible). There are a few tiny 'gaps' between the pants and the body (e.g. you can see the inside of the hollow model). And, the very bottom of his body has a small spot with a 'web' of plastic ribbons, where you can see through to the inner hollow body. This took ~4 hours to print.
I currently have (b) as my own desk minion, haha. Thanks for the great model!
After you rotated it 51 degrees, did you move it down to touch the ground? Mine looks like he is floating above the plane.
No, I left it in the air and to my pleasant surprise it built the raft and support below it. I prefer to do this because it's nearly impossible to get rid of that darn raft. It's sticks to the bottom too well. So by leaving it up in the air, I just had to remove the support which was pretty easy.
I printed mine using Cura without tilting the model. Very rough finish on the lower half where the support material was. Also my belts were loose and I was running too hot. Still, the wife is happy with it.
Having the hardest time printing this with support. The raft material is constantly getting trapped in the feet. Did you by any chance enlarge this first?
Hello Framingr,
I printed this on a Replicator 2 using Makerware. The print was about 2" tall (when standing). I rotated the character so that, the Minion's front of the googles was parallel with the build platform. I'm going to post a screen grab of the Makerware screen positioning to demonstrate how I oriented the character. I printed it at the default "High" setting with the support box checked. I rotated the character about 51 degrees leaning towards the back. Check out the screen grab :)
