Summary

Here's all the files you'll need to get your Replicator XL up and running at full capacity.

Many thanks to JohnA and Ozar for their help getting this thing going. Hopefully this can help others with this awesome mod too.

Instructions

This is a little tricky so I'll try to make it as easy as possible. These are written for OSX, if you've got windows, these files will be located in a different location.

  1. Go to ReplicatorG in Applications and right click to Show Package Contents.
  2. Go to Content -> Resources -> into Machines
  3. Place ReplicatorXL.xml here
  4. Open Replicator and place the remaining gcode files here.

Now, this part messed me up for some time.

Restart ReplicatorG and select the ReplicatorXL from the machine profiles. Connect your bot by USB and hit connect in the upper right hand corner. This will tell your bot that it is a Rep XL and not a stock machine by rewriting one line of code... that it is 250mm tall not 150mm.

After this mod what settings to use for it to work with simplify3d!?
And doest it work also with sailfish firmware?

thanks!!

you just change the z-axis to 250mm in the s3d profile.
It works with sailfish. (recommended)

to learn how to set it up just set up your current bot to have a smaller say 100mm z

do a lot of reading or get help before installing sf

Hello tramalot,

Thanks, About the Sailfish my bot already has it... so that part is done... what do you mean with "I made in the xml file was to make the driver "mightysailfish"."
How much wood did you need to buy to do this project?

Regards.

that was really just to make a second machine profile for mbi makerware which I no longer use.

<?xml version="1.1" encoding="utf-8"?>

The Replicator Dual (Sailfish) <!-- different pulleys on X and Y axii --> <!-- Pulley dia: 10.82mm / 1/8 step = 1/(10.82 * pi / 1600) --> <!-- Pulley dia: 10.82mm / 1/8 step = 1/(10.82 * pi / 1600) --> ?see here? <!-- Actual length is 157mm, we reserve ~5mm for safety. TR-8x8 Z axis = 1/(8/1600) --> <!-- stepspermm is incoming filament length, see comment at bottom for explanation --> <!-- stepspermm is incoming filament length, see comment at bottom for explanation --> "see here" this is all thats needed for most clones, for a real mbi rep1 leave the 2nd "see here" at 33mm

ps copy this into notpad++ or other code editor

Worked great. One change I made in the xml file was to make the driver "mightysailfish".

taught me a lot , thanks

Gowhitefish, great job. Do you have any photos of prints you can upload here? Keep up the great work! Andrew (http://3dhacker.com3dhacker.com)
