Summary

This is a lightweight frame to hold your GoPro Hero3 camera. It's not protective like the acrylic housing, but it does allow you to plug in a USB cable so you can power your GoPro for extended time lapse shooting.

See the blog post for more info: http://rasterweb.net/raster/2012/12/31/gopro-hero3-frame/

Instructions

Print it on your 3D printer and put your GoPro Hero3 camera in it.

Use the OpenSCAD script if you want to make any changes.

i love that you kept the piece open on the bottom, it only puts pressure on the camera when you mount it! that is VERY clever! congrats and thanks!

Would this fit the Hero4 without tweaking?

I don't know if the Hero4 has the same physical dimensions as the Hero3. If it does, then it should.

I fit this to my Hero 4 perfectly. They have the same dimensions.

Mine printed 4 layers thick, but seems the width is somewhere between 4 and 5, so theres a tiny hap in the core where the layers separate and don't bond well. I've had this happen with other ABS parts when the geometry just doesn't add up. Need to tweak my extrusion to either print narrower or squish more

Works with PLA perfekt, no scaling

Thanks

Anyone else have problems with it not being tight enough around the GoPro? I can pull my camera out of the frame while it is screwed in tight.

All of the ones I've printed fit just snug enough. Maybe you could reduce the STL size to 98% or so before printing?

I was going to try scaling it down, but then I thought I would try it with ABS (was using PLA), and now it is really tight. I am not able to shake the camera around with it in the frame and it doesn't budge. Thanks for the model!

Ahh, good to know! I normally print with ABS.

Perfect, thanks for the model :)

Printed with black PLA. Came out great!

Nylon? I don't know... I've made a bunch of them with ABS and they turned out great!

nice job mate.... would nylon be best for this?

could you make one for Hero 2 if you can that will be GREAT!!!

I don't have a Hero 2, but it should be easy enough to edit the OpenSCAD file to make the changes needed to fit that model.

Cool, I've been meaning to make one of these for a couple of weeks now. Thanks for saving me the trouble :)
