Description

I live in the 'High Desert' of Oregon. It's dry here, and in the winter, it's even worse. LOTS of STATIC in the air.

My husband and I have fried two makerbot Mightyboards because of static zaps, and both times it seemed to originate from the SD Card slot. We'd reach for the bot to press the M button and our fingers would brush up against the side where the SD card slot is, and a tiny little static charge would go through. Suddenly the screen gets garbled and the bot turns off. Turn it back on and POP! Fuse Capacitor explodes on the Mighty Board.

Last time I static zapped the SD card slot and the bot went crazy and turned off, I removed the SD card before turning it back on and lo and behold, no pop. Don't know if that really helped, or if I was just lucky.

In any case, we decided that this was worth a shot, so we made a little cover for the SD card slot in hopes that it might help prevent anymore fried Mightyboards.

Maybe it'll help you too.

Instructions

After printing, to install, just unscrew the screw directly beneath the SD card, put the cover in place, and then put the screw back in. Don't tighten it too much or else it won't turn well.
