I love the dragon, but had a lot of trouble printing it either without support or with full support. So I pulled it into Sketchup and fiddled with pillar supports until it came out without screwing up. YMMV.

Print the dragon with no support or raft. Once printed, the pillars should clip out easily.

Weird. The one shown is the one I printed using my Rep2 and Makerware. I ended up making 3 of various sizes without the effect you mention. But that was a while ago, Makerware has changed plenty since then. I will try it again and see if I get the same issue.

I tried printing this on Makerbot Replicator 2 using Makerware as the slicer. It went awry about halfway through the wings, printing all subsequent layers about 20 mm over to the right of where they should be. I wonder if there are glitches in the model that causes problems for Makerware?

Are you sure your Y-motor cable doesn't have a short? It's a problem all Replicator 2's are having, and Makerbot is offering free replacement cables.

Can someone post a version of the stl that is useable with Slic3r and Pronterface. I'm using Slic3r v0.9.9-dev and Pronterface (Printrun-Win-Slic3r-12July2013). When I load the gcode from Slic3r into Printrun, it gives an message asking me to check the g-code for errors. I tried printing the result anyway and had the same problem as Belatu - the g-code image isn't the same as the original image and it prints horribly. I also tried repairing the repaired file with Netfab basic and cloud, but that wasn't successful either. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for sharing a wonderful dragon.

I sliced with slic3r and started printing this this morning and left for the office, and came home to find it printing what i can only describe as a mold. no idea why, but I'll try again tonight.

nice, way to go! I'm glad you were able to print off the dragon. It took me a few tries before I was able to print off that dragon.

Going to be a happy son tomorrow :) He loves dragons. Thanks
