I'm a newbie, and have failed 3 times to print the spring hinges; my ABS keeps becoming unglued because of the small size. I tried using rafts and supports, in the xyzprinting Davinci 1.0, slow and .1 layer height; any suggested settings would be welcome. I will switch software, but for now I want to continue learning using the simple XYZware before I switch to slic3r and other hacks. I resized it 2500 times the file size and that did print but was about 3/8 inch in diameter, to big for regular straws. I also seperated the two parts of the spring hinges using sketchup because the top section just turned into a mess of twisted ABS because lack of supports, I'm guessing. Thanks for the spring sizes, I'll see if I can find just that size.
The springs are indeed 12mm long and are 2 mm in diameter.

I've updated the description with a link to the supplier from whom I got my springs.
Can someone post the dimentions of the springs used in this project. By the picture, it is 12mm long. I think the diameter is the important measurement for springs.

Hey thanks for posting! There seems to be a file missing though for part of the joint. Can you upload the second half of the joint again?
instead of a metal spring, can you use a piece of filament? how hard would it be to convert it to use something like that?
An automatic beaded door! w00tz!
Awesome THING!!!
Thanks for posting that last picture with potential applications for this object. Very cool!
Could you make a multiple peg holder to make polyhedra? A five point and a six point would allow you to make a large number of them.
