Summary

One of the more complicated pieces I've designed (and certainly the biggest), I made this guy so I would have something impressive to bring with me to PAX. If any of you are going, be sure and swing by the Wombat room at 6:00 PM on Friday the 29th (first day) where I'll be presenting this guy and some (soon to be released) Wayfarer themed Pocket-Tactics sets, along with giving my general thoughts on 3D printing for tabletop gaming. Should be good times!

Instructions

Printed in halves and glued together with model glue.

And Monster Heads

Hey, thanks! We could probably work something out. Shoot me an email: [email protected]

love it and can't wait to print it!

Thanks! Be sure and post pics!

Nice! Congrats on the Feature too. Thanks for sharing the model.

Will be at PAX but a different day. Hope you have a great time. PAX is a beautiful thing.

I'm curious as to the "model glue" you used. I haven't found a good adhesive yet. Crazy glue doesn't seem to work well for PLA.

Did you print this in PLA or ABS? And why?

Oh yeah and we backed your Wayfarer Kickstarter. Keep on kicking booty! Peace.

Hey, thank you very much! Too bad our days aren't lining up, but thanks for the backing!

Yeah, I use a form of superglue you can get at hobby shops, specifically for use with metal and plastic models (like Warhammer stuff). It works equally well with ABS and PLA. I don;t have a brand, as its usually branded to the store itself (not sure how that works) but the Games Workshop stuff should work just fine.

I printed mine in ABS. I have a Rep 1, and while it can be outfitted for PLA, I haven't drummed up the nerve to try modding my machine yet. However, I would very much prefer PLA.

Thanks for the information on the glue and print material.

I've only printed in PLA so far and am considering modding my bot to try ABS. From your information, though, perhaps I'll reconsider.

well I am forwarding this to my DM to see if he wants it for our D&D!!!

Might make for a great enhanced HD Behir!

He 's lovely!(Well, in a flesh eating monster way) I'm guessing as a game character, he's not too friendly though? I love assembled models and you should really do an articulated version. The sculpting is great and you are inspiring me to make a monster next. You using Sculptris?

Thanks, Louise! I wanted something impressive to bring with me to PAX, and as gaming models go, he's gigantic (especially for the scale I use). I reeeeally want to make an articulated version. I'm not super experienced with getting the tolerances just right and all that yet, but I want very badly to make some action figures, so I'll work on it.

As for friendliness, he's probably about as friendly as a crocodile or a t-rex or something. I did use Sculptris, yeah Sculptris first, then imported to TinkerCAD, and I used Blender to soften/merge parts here and there. He put some strain on the TCad, and took me over a week to print (including down time for having to replace a printer part) but he was worth it. You should totally make a monster, by the way!
