Customizable Bag Clip

Customizable Bag Clip by walter Feb 2, 2013

Description

I have a several types of bag clips at home, but they're bulky, ugly, and don't work with thicker and folded bags. Here's my solution.

The design is customizable, you can adjust the size of the clip or add a label (in multiple fonts, including braille). Additional parameters can be used to tweak the design for other printers and plastics. The example files were created to work with ABS plastic, print matching inside and outside files to assemble a clip.

I made some in PLA without any problems. Reduced the support from 50% to 15%

tnx a lot. I love these clips they very useful and strong!

check out write.scad (http://www.thingiverse.com/thi... it has the code and fonts needed to render text.

Instructions

This design includes customizable parameters so it can be used with other plastics and printers. For printing in ABS, most of the parameters shouldn't need to be changed. Printing in PLA may require adjusting the thicknesses and angles. Take a look at the customize image for more info on the customizable parameters.

To assemble, insert one end of the inner clip between the hinge sections of the outer clip, and twist the other side in.

To open and close, bend the entire clip (it acts like a spring) until the inner clip has enough room to clear the end of the clip.

Support material recommended.

Where can i find the font files?

// Font used to render the label

_3b_labelFont = "write/orbitron.dxf"; // ["write/orbitron.dxf":Orbitron, "write/letters.dxf":Basic, "write/knewave.dxf":KneWave, "write/BlackRose.dxf":BlackRose, "write/braille.dxf":Braille]

I really like the idea of this object, but trying to remove the support material from PLA is a real pain. I guess this would be super with a dual extruder system.

Who makes the plastic that you use? Those colors are a lot brighter than the stuff I have seen.

Most of my plastics come from Octave (http://www.octave.com/3D-Print...

The colors used in the clip are fluorescent green, fluorescent red, glow in the dark blue, and gold.

Very nice presentation. Took you probably longer than designing the Thing itself. :-)
