The Strati, built by Local Motors, is the world's first car to be built with a 3D printed monocoque chassis, first unveiled by being printed and assembled at the IMTS show in Chicago, September 2014.
Now, you can download the file used to print the car, scaled to 1/10th size, so that it will fit on a Replicator 2! This STL also includes models of the wheels, suspension and drivetrain components, so that you can make a full replica of the car. By popular demand, also included is the 1/10th scale STL of the test mule car that we built to test the technology before building the Strati, and all the parts in separate files to facilitate customization and R/C use.
The design was submitted to Local Motors' Direct Digital Manufacture Car Design Challenge by Michele Anoé of Italy. To visit the project page and see the rest of the entries in the DDM car challenge, click here: https://localmotors.com/idesigncars/3d-printed-car-design-challenge/
The technology required to build this car was developed by Local Motors in conjunction with Oak Ridge National Labs, Cincinnati Inc, and the Thermwood corporation. Cincinnati built the BAAM (Big Area Additive Machine) to print the car, and Thermwood provided a 5 axis router to perform the subtractive operations for both aesthetic design, and to create precision surfaces for mounting suspension / drivetrain components.
This print works well on a Replicator 2 printing with the default settings for standard quality. At 0.20 mm layer thickness and 15% infill, the print takes about 19 hours, so make sure you have plenty of filament loaded up.
