Description

This Thing has an ID number of 5000.

This Thing consists of an image of its own QR Code, a Sketchup file containing the designs for its own QR Code, and an STL file which, when printed, will result in its own QR code being printed.

All files uploaded have the same file name, but different extensions.

It is one of the few (only?) Things on Thingiverse which is functionally equivalent whether you print out the image using a 2D printer or the physical object described by the STL using a 3D printer.

EXACTLY 5000 characters total were used in the names of all files, the name, description, and Instructions. (The previous sentence was a blatant lie).

Instructions

1) Print.
2) Scan the QR Code.
3) Go to Thing brought up by the QR Code.
4) Follow instructions for Thing brought up by the QR Code.

For urls it may be a good idea to run it through a url shortening service like bit.ly. this will simplify the qr code that is generated and make it much easier to print...

Totally agree. I did exactly that. :)

Awesome!

How did you generate the 3D model from the QR Code image? I am very interested in including a printed QR code placard with every model that I upload, but I haven't found the time to figure out how :).

Upon further consideration - I think there's a better way. You could open Inkscape, import the QR code, trace the image as a path, export as a DXF, import into OpenSCAD, and extrude it as a solid! It's a little more involved than what I did, but it would go WAY faster.

Short answer: slowly.

I imported the QR code into Sketchup as an image. Then I drew a 33x33 block around the entire QR code. Each QR code has several similar features, I replicated those. Then, I extruded all of the black areas to be raised above the white areas. I wish I had an automated way to do this, but do not have such skillz.

add a unicorn GCode. and laserable files. and an inkscape file for eggbots. and a file for embroidery machines.

Oooooohhhh... I like it!

I don't know why I love this so much, but I do.

Heh. Cool...

Kinda like a Doctor Who loop ... ;)

I'm going to have to turn this into a stamp - so that I can stamp the QR Code places...
