Spool Mount Meddley by ctheroux Feb 17, 2013

Description

Using parts of two things, I manage to get the ideal spool mount for a Prusa Mendel 3D printer. I used the top part of thingiverse.com/thing:32320 and the bottom part of thingiverse.com/thing:30742 .

it makes sense now ,I recognised the resistor and its purpose , was just very confused when I saw it on the 12v rail in the picture , but any way if only I knew about this before a had blown up my previous 2 (cheap) power supplies, this should be on the reprap wiki (or is it already?)
The 5 ohms resistor should be on the 5 volts rail (wrong on the picture). This resistor stabilizes the voltage when a power peak is needed from the power supply. It often appends with cheap power supply. I paid this one $15!
The power supply setup you have there confuses me , why do you have a resistor hooked up on the same rail you run the printer from ?

Instructions

Print 1kgTopPair.stl from thingiverse.com/thing:32320 and two Spool_vertical_mount.stl of thingiverse.com/thing:30742 . You will need 2 threaded rods of 8 mm x 20 cm and 1 smooth rod of 28 cm. Having bushings for the spool reduce a lot the friction and the force needed to unwind the filament.
