Description

I built this CNC router from designs I saw all ver the place and like the idea of using aluminium channel and steel. I simply built the table then measured the gantry to suit. You can build any size this way as long as you re-enforce properly. The control board came from HobbyCNC and the motors are NEMA 23. The power supply I built (simple 24v 7A).

any plans to make a guide?

What kind of spindle head did uyou use in this one?

I have three heads that I use interchangeably:

1) Dremmel 300 - OK for small jobs using up to 4mm acrylic or 8mm wood. Not very robust though due to the poor quality of the spindle shaft bearing...but they are very cheap to replace.

2) Home made spindle using ER11 collet and type 540 DC motor - much better than dremmel and quieter (spins up to 16000 revs) but still suited to smaller jobs.

3) Variable speed 800W Ozito router - I have used this on 6mm Aluminum/20mm HDPE and Polyprop/25mm Wodd/18mm Acrylic. Nothing seems to bother it - only draw back is it's noisy (need ear muffs). But it does cut best of all with only minimal polishing required after cutting.

that is some cool stuff. We should be able to do the same for 3D printer as well.

I really like the mini roller chair in the picture too :-)

Thanks William, I will look forward to your 3D printer developments. I am currently building a mendel with parts I got from mendel-parts.com - I have done a lot of work with Arduino so control HW/SW should not be a problem.

The roller chair is my most useful posession - I did not design it:(
