This thing can be customized with MakerBot Customizer! Open in Customizer

Description

Create a near infinite range of 3x3x3 shape variations on the Rubik's cube.

This Thing is a work in progress - it needs a Rubik Cube core to create a new puzzle. Haven't yet printed a full puzzle using this script which was somewhat customised for customizer.

Instructions

1. Tweak settings.
2. Generate a unique cube puzzle
3. Turn on rounding (makes customiser very slow!)
4. Find an old Rubik's cube to "borrow" to provide core, center pieces (less caps) and springs
5. Print
6. Play

The STLs in this Thing are included to give an illustration of the types of cube mods that can be made. Run the OpenSCAD in customizer or download and run locally to generate individual piece files.

Items still on the "to do" list for this thing :

Add more target shapes
Add option to print core pieces (fully printable cube)
Allow pieces to be printed in halves and snapped together to eliminate need for supports
Create plate layout optimised for printing

wt is the unit used in the file?

How do I make one in the shape of a dodecahedron?!

At the moment it's only possible to make a dodecahedron if you download the OpenSCAD script and tweak it. It's not as complicated as it sounds as you'll only need to drop the dodecahedron in as either a custom shape, or import it as an STL. After a few months away from this Thing I am starting to look at it again and will add the dodeca as an additional shape option in a future release.
