Left Bearing for Aluminum HBP Arms

Left Bearing for Aluminum HBP Arms by kohlerw Mar 10, 2013

Description

For the people who like to print on glass, but not to permanently modify their Replicator. This Left bearing allows the use of a glass clip to toggle between glass or the standard base plate. The original left bearing as designed by botteworks is the same height as the back wooden cross piece which did not leave room for any clip to be attached to the back of the build platform. By deleting a portion of the left bearing you now have room to attach any size clip you want.

Note: The picture of the Left Bearing was printed before the Aluminum HBP Arms upgrade.

I just got my aluminum arms in. I look forward to using this Thing!

It does not replace the wooden pieces. But adds retainers between the two pieces (right now there's just two plastic spacers between the front and back pieces).

I didn't even think of this... I assembled my arms on Friday last week.. Doh.. I guess I have to take it apart :)

Ah the new photo kinda makes it clearer. I wasn't expecting the aluminum arms (I have a set on order) to replace the wooden cross-pieces. It'll be interesting to see how that works.

How does this work?

If all you need to do is adjust the Z offset so that the build plate homes downwards by the thickness of the class, it's easy to use http://www.thingiverse.com/thi... . I use it all the time to adjust to when I add/remove different thickness build plates, which I do when switching between ABS (on sheet metal with Kaptop tape), PLA (Acrylic or Glass, with Painter's tape) and Nylon (on Bakelite). They're different thicknesses, so I printed clips of each thickness and swap them. I don't even have to re-level the build platform! :-)
