Summary

A working key for the handcuffs used by Dutch and German police. Tested, works perfectly.

This is a re-do of Ray's key, but I've used a real key as reference, so it's now much more accurate.

Be careful about print quality. Make sure the key is as sturdy as you can make it, because you don't want it breaking off inside a handcuff.

Instructions

Again: it's important that you print this as sturdy as possible, to prevent it breaking off inside a handcuff.

Print it lying down. Use support material.

Make it as solid as you can. You can even play around with your slicer's fudge setting to make it more densely packed (in Cura this means lowering the packing density, in other slicers try the filament diameter). Using small layer heights (e.g. 0.1mm) also helps to make it more sturdy.

So, to recap:

  • Support material
  • Low layers
  • High fill
  • Really high fill
  • Print laying down

key does not work:

printer: teebot
resolution: maximum possible
layer: 0.1 (could do 0.01 but wanted to test the recommanded 0.1mm first)
shell:0.4 (nozzle is not smaller)
top/bottem:0.1
infill 100%
software: cura
material PLA
support: maximum

(key is tested "LEGALLY")

What did you print this in? i'm thinking those teeth are so small unless you printed it out of Taulman Alloy 910 (where it will give not break) they will chip off. Or did you go the other direction and go with a very ridged PLA?

I'm looking for specifications for when I import it to other applications. Specifically, I am trying to generate a number of items that are TinkerCad friendly. Can you provide the width for the "F" shaped section that actually engages with the lock? I show it as 4.1 mm. Thanks.

Uhhhhh... I actually think I have a newer version that I didn't upload, that was optimised for printing on an FDM printer. I'll see if I can find it and if I do I'll post the exact dimensions as well.
