Spool holder for Prototype Supply filament. (Replicator, Replicator 2, and Replicator 2X) by toybuilder Apr 20, 2013

Description

This is a customized spool holder for the Prototype Supply brand filament, available from Toybuilder Labs (http://www.toybuilderlabs.com).

Replicator: Use the "r2d" version.
Replicator 2; Use the "r2e" version.
Replicator 2x: Use the "r2e" version.

This spool holder was created by editing the output of woale's Customizable Spool Holder for Replicator 2 -- thingiverse.com/thing:44906 to make the tongue fit into the slot on the Replicator.

Apparently the Flashforge Creator, while a 'clone' of the Replicator Dual, has different spool holders. The holes are round instead of square, so this doesn't fit.
The lastest spool holder works perfectly on my replicator 2! Thank you toybuilder for adjusting the part :)
Thanks for the pictures! I have updated the thing ("r2e" version) which should fit the shorter opening.

Instructions

To print it, I suggest using a very high fill - at least 40%. If you are using thin layers, I suggest raising the solid layer thickness above the default 3 layers so that it comes out to 1 mm or thicker.

Because this is a pretty big print, you will be fighting shrink and warp. If you can print PLA, I would recommend that. Also, to improve the strength of the spool holder, you might want to *slightly* under-report the filament diameter when slicing (or use any other techniques to fool the slicer into extruding plastic a *little* bit thicker). Finally, consider extruding the plastic a little hotter but slower than usual. YMMV.

Once your print is done, break off the little bridge-helper tabs.

This part does not fit the Replicator 2. The section that goes into the hole does not fit. I had to jam it in and it still does not sit flush.

I'm sorry that you had a problem with the part.

I asked a customer to bring in his MakerBot official spool holder for his Replicator 2X, and it matched up against the official spool holder that I received with my (original) Replicator. Looking at them, and the printed part, it looks like this design should fit -- the tongue is narrower than that of the official ones. A much earlier version of this thing had the tongue too wide, but in its current form, it shouldn't be.

Could you perhaps take a picture to show where it is interfering? Maybe I'm still missing a detail for the R2?

Thanks.

This didn't work. Only printed the "support" structure on the right. Didn't print the spool :(
I have updated the thing with a version that has been scrubbed through netfabb cloud. Please try again. Sorry for the inconvenience!
I sent you a PM a few days ago going into greater detail. Did you receive it?
I had to search, but I did find it. Thanks! I am sorry I had not seen it sooner. I have in fact found the mesh problem, fixed it, have printed another print, and uploaded the newest design.
Do you mean that the rest of the print failed? Or that it did not slice properly?
It did not slice properly.
