Base plate and axle for Triple gear

Base plate and axle for Triple gear by henryseg Apr 24, 2013

Description

Video.

This is intended to work with Triple gear. The axle threads through the central hole in the gears. Rotating the axle makes the gears turn. The gears sit on the baseplate, which prevents them from rotating around the axle itself. The axle has a 5mm diameter cylindrical hole in the bottom, for fitting onto a motor.

This is also available at Shapeways.

If you watch the video, you'll see that the motion isn't perfectly smooth. Possibly some improvements could be made to the shape of the baseplate and/or axle and/or triple gear to make it smoother.

It's ok. Printed fine but needs full support. Not a problem.

I figured it would be easy for anyone else to separate the pieces? I can do it easily enough though.

I can easily make the base "cradles" solid, but would that help? Wouldn't it be cheaper to have support inside the cradles rather than solid?

Ahhh... the base is hollow! Oh well... I guess full support or no print.

I REALLY REALLY appreciate that you posted this thing... but.... having the 2 parts in one file poses problems... particularly when the base is raised a bit... it makes for required support on a thing which should be printable without the need for support. Support costs PLA/ABS, time and resulting finish. So... could ya please separate the parts for us??? Thanks!

are the pieces in your photo printed? They look cast.

In the video over on his printed knot thing he mentions they are laser sintered.

Right, I use Shapeways' "White Strong and Flexible" material, which is laser sintered nylon.
