Description

Printable snap-together tank with electronics. This design is a collaboration between my company newbound.com and nibitwonder nbitwonder.com.

First off, the list of things this is a derivative of:
- My original tank design thingiverse.com/thing:6554
- Tracks Chain and Pinions by foxdewayne thingiverse.com/thing:5690
- Chain and Pinions by aubenc thingiverse.com/thing:5656
- Large Threaded Bolt and Nut by ub3rgeek thingiverse.com/thing:4880
- Parameterized battery pack with contacts by obijuan thingiverse.com/thing:5079
- Parameterized Battery Compartment by guru thingiverse.com/thing:5051
- My original 9 Volt Racer thingiverse.com/thing:4818

The circuit board may have been updated since the version on thingiverse thingiverse.com/thing:7618. Download the latest version from github github.com/NBitWonder/DCMotorController and read the project blog nbitwonder.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=23.

The parts are individually laid out in layer 2 of tank.blend. The tank.stl is really just for the pretty render and is not useful for printing.

UPDATE: The motors I chose for this project ended up not having enough torque to drive the treads. The motors ended up getting used for the successor to the Tank line-- the Truckbot line: thingiverse.com/thing:10349

Instructions

You will also need 16 nuts (3mm) for the battery contacts, some wire, 8 AA batteries and a pair of 600 RPM DC motors batteryspace.com/dcmotorhightorquemini12vdcgearmotor 600rpmforhobbyproject.aspx.

Print out the following:

4 x axel-end.stl
2 x axel-gear.stl
4 x axel-spacer.stl
4 x axel.stl
8 x axelholder.stl
2 x battery.stl
4 x elbow.stl
2 x motorholder.stl
1 x pcb-holder-mirror.stl
1 x pcb-holder.stl
12 x plus.stl
16 x short-axel.stl
32 x tank-tread-1-single.stl
32 x tank-tread-2-single.stl
8 x wheel.stl
4 x worm-end.stl
2 x worm-gear.stl
2 x wormholder-mirror.stl
2 x wormholder.stl

Assemble as depicted in tank.stl or tank.blend. You will find that the motors need to be mounted to the motor holders PRIOR to assembly or you won't be able to bolt them in. The battery holders should be wired up prior to mounting as well.

Build the PCB github.com/NBitWonder/DCMotorController and mount it to the pcb holders.

Add some wiring to connect the PCB to the batteries and motors and then figure out how to control the darn thing with that last-generation ipod or smartphone you've got laying around collecting dust...

I am currently printing out this tank looks awesome! I went on tinkercad and fit as many pieces as I could so it would fit on my replicator.  Its separated into 9 prints if anyone is interested here is my profile.  I have to change p3 it had a problem.  I'll update when its finished.

which printer do you use?

I have a cupcake cnc with a semi-automated build platform.

I want a pink one 8-)

Wow it's pretty. Also very cool how this is derived of so many other designs!

Very nice! I'm working on the electronics as we speak, so hopefully a physical board will be completed tonight :-)
