Hey! This thing is still a Work in Progress.
Files, instructions, and other stuff might change!
solenoid based dual material extruder 1.75mm
Description
this is a work in progress. i will p=be posting up the files as as they are finalized so that the community as a whole can work together to further develop this concept.
this system has 1 NEMA 17 stepper motor as a direct drive motor and 2 pull solenoids providing pressure against the filaments. each solenoid has a delrin block attached and a spring to provide pressure when a solenoid is retracted the other engages pushing the other filament into the drive gear.

You'll want each filament to be clamped when it is disengaged from the motor so that it doesn't move unexpectedly in the barrel. Even if you do that and retract the filament a bit before disengaging, you're likely to get some ooze from a barrel that is left idle and hot for a while.

Sounds like the drive-gear will grind on the filament that is not in use and it will be hard (so say the least) to re-engage it later.
i re uploaded the delrin slider pdf it may explain how the drive engages better
