Summary

Charge your iPhone 6 Plus and Watch in style!

This is meant for use with the iPhone 6 Plus with the 1mm hard silicone case. It can be used without the case as shown in the picture, but it is a bit loose.

Looking for a version that supports the regular size iPhone 6? Check out this remix:
http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:880490

We are getting plenty of requests for variations for variations base on various iPhone/case combos. While we don't have plans to make these ourselves, feel free to remix the design to fit your needs!

Check the remix section for the original files that inspired and enabled our design.

Instructions

Download iPhone_Watch_Stand.stl for the full, fused file. Send to a service like Shapeways for slick one-piece printing as shown in the images.

For printing on your own plastic extrusion printer, download Part 1 and Part 2.

  • Part 1 can be printed without supports in its current orientation.
  • Part 2 should be printed with supports in its current orientation. Support should be minimal and any rough points would be on the back of the stand.

After printing, glue the two halves together to form a single piece with a small seam in front.

Thingiverse user narenpatel printed Phone_Watch_Stand.stl at a scale of 1.015 to fit the iPhone 6 plus with leather case. They said the Apple Watch charging disk will be little loose as a result, but can be fixed by wrapping a bit of tape around the charger for a better fit.

Download Full_Dock_For_Remixing.stp for easier editing in your CAD program of choice. It is a bit messy since all the original files for this remix came from STL files and this STEP is a conversion from that.

I was really excited to stumble across this! It came out great!! It was actually first Make of any kind really(besides the pre loaded stuff) I made it on a Replicator2. I saw a couple files. The one I printed had the entire piece(no glue). Once I get a handle on "Bidges, Rafts & Supports" I'm goin to try it again. I over sanded trying to fit my phone and case in and had to add a small plate on the front to keep it from falling out. Also is there a thin panel that can be attached to the bottom to keep the phone power cable from being pushed down to far? Thanks again! My wife took my watch charge stand so she could use it now she's jealous! lol

Glad you like it! We don't have plans for modifying this design any further, but we have provided a STEP model file for download. You should be able to import this into most CAD software options. Feel free to modify as needed! Thanks for your comment and maybe print another for your wife. :)

This guy appears to be selling your design as his own without attributing you as the designer:

https://www.etsy.com/listing/266642849/iphone-66-charging-dock-w-apple-watch?ref=shop_home_active_1

FYI.

Looks like they added some attribution comments at the bottom, so it's fine now. Thanks for the heads up!

I reached out to him on etsy and pointed it out; he was nice about it and thanked me for bringing it to his attention.

Great! Thanks for doing that!

Can you integrate this to it somehow: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1071388

Apple Watch Strap Hanger v1

We appreciate the suggestion, but won't be able to integrate this hanger. We did recently upload the STEP file for this design though, so I'm sure you can find someone else here on Thingiverse that will be able to create the remix you are wanting.

pretty sweet the charger doesn't fit in. It's slightly too small but other than that worked great and amplified sound a little!

Glad you like it! The tolerance on the charger slot and cable channel is fairly tight. Some people have good luck with it right off the printer and others have to do a bit of modification to make it fit. It really depends on the printer.

Made this and love it. However, maybe something went wrong in the making, because I had to use a dremel to get the original iphone 6 cord into the hole that it made. I printed directly from your file, without scaling. How did others do this? (wife of Milan)

It depends on the printer, really. The measurements should be good since many people have had a good fit right off the printer. Depending on the printer model though, you might have to make some adjustments like you did on yours. Thanks for the comment!

Would it be possible to get part 1 in a different format? I am trying to edit the model to fit my case (a spec CANDYSHELL GRIP IPHONE 6S PLUS case) and it would be much easier than dealing with the stl. I am using SolidWorks but I can use pretty much any format model.

We just added Full_Dock_For_Remixing.stp. You should be able to use this for easier modification. It's not the cleanest file since our sources for this remix were STLs. Hope this helps!

Hey, got a question... I am planning to scale this up by the 1.015x to accommodate the leather case for the 6s Plus. I was wondering if this tends to make the charging cable for the iphone lose? I'm just wondering if any modifications would be needed prior to printing.

Thanks!

You might need to scale it up a little more than the 1.015 mentioned in the instructions. That was for the regular 6 Plus. The 6S Plus is a hair larger and even more so with the leather case. Scaling it up may make the charging cable for the phone and watch a little loose, but we don't have a 6s Plus, so you may have to experiment for yourself. :)

Anyone tried this with a 6S Plus yet? I'm unsure of the tolerances from the description so I don't know if the slightly increased thickness would cause issues?

We haven't heard anyone say if it will work or not. Our guess is that it would be very close since the width increased by .1mm and thickness increased about .2mm. We don't have a 6S Plus, so we won't be able to test it.

Nice job, I'll try to print it in my prusa i3.

i love mine it works

Hi! I printed these thing today and I want to know how to glue it Thks for this thing!!! Wonderful

It would depend on the material you used to print it, but I think most people use a gel type cyanoacrylate (super glue) for PLA. For ABS, many people use an ABS/Acetone mixture. Look up "ABS print glue." Acetone is nasty stuff though, so use at your own risk and make sure you follow proper precautions when handling.

Make sure you share a picture when you are finished!

Worked in the shown orientation. i tried external support but it stood too far away. In the end no support was necessary -when it came to printing the watch-holder (after 6 hours printing time) i held a small swiss knive blade under the Filament until the first strings were in place. From there on everything worked fine.

minor things: the watch holder could be a bit higher and it would have been great to bring both cables together unter the stand.

Thanks for your great designjob!

I printed it and it worked really well. You have to wiggle the watch charger for it to fit. 5 Stars.

LOVE THE DESIGN, have printed two of them and they are amazing. What would be the easiest way to extend out to the cradle for the phone to fit a little bit wider of a phone that has a case on it? Its a very tight fitting case, but not tight enough to fit in this design.

Do you have the 6 Plus w/ leather case? If so, Thingiverse user narenpatel printed Phone_Watch_Stand.stl at a scale of 1.015 to provide a slightly larger fit. They said the Apple Watch charging disk will be little loose as a result, but can be fixed by wrapping a bit of tape around the charger for a better fit.

Can you tell me what was the best way to print it with minimal support? Thanks!!

See the instruction tab for print orientation and let us know how it turns out!

I wanted to print as one piece with minimal support but I cant find the best orientation to do so. Any suggestions?

Printing in one piece on a plastic extrusion printer can be done, but you may have mixed results depending on your slicing/support settings. I printed this oriented as seen in the pictures on an FDM printer we have with supports enabled using some default settings and it worked fine...with the exception of one spot. The default support settings for my printer (CubePro) placed supports in the speaker holes. This pretty much just filled them in and made the speaker ports useless. On the watch side of the print, the only rough spots would be on the underside of the arm and the top side of the platform directly below that. That part was easy enough to smooth out.

Can you adjust this to work with apples leather cases? It needs a millimeter or two more space. Thanks!

Thingiverse user narenpatel printed Phone_Watch_Stand.stl at a scale of 1.015 to provide a slightly larger fit needed for the leather case. They said the Apple Watch charging disk will be little loose as a result, but can be fixed by wrapping a bit of tape around the charger for a better fit.

Looks great,
I also would like to have a iPhone 6 (4.7") version of this thing.
regards.

Scale the Phone_Watch_Stand.stl 1.015 and fits the iPhone 6 plus with leather case perfectly. the apple watch charging disk will be little loose but I put some tape around the edge and snugs it up real nice.

Thanks for testing this! I'll update the instructions with your results.

can you make a verson of this stand that will work with the iPhone 6 plus while in an Otterbox defender case?
I have not found a charging station that will work with this case so far.

Wow, I'd love to have a regular 6 version of this!!! This is way more professional/OEM looking than the other combo dock on here. Kudos.

Glad you like it! While we don't have plans for other versions, it has been a pretty popular item. Hopefully other makers out there will make a few remixes for various iPhone and case combos.

there's a very similar one now available on this link, printing today so will let you know how it works out

iPhone 6 Dock w/ Integrated Apple Watch Charging Station

I'll be adding this remix to the description since it was requested multiple times!

Do you think an iPhone 6+ with the leather case would fit?

Scale the Phone_Watch_Stand.stl 1.015 and fits the iPhone 6 plus with leather case perfectly. the apple watch charging disk will be little loose but I put some tape around the edge and snugs it up real nice. Printed on my frashforge dreamer with pla white

I tried this with my Apple Leather case and it was still too tight. I Dremell-ed it a bit and it works well now. I would say it needs a little more than 1.015, but maybe it is more of an issue with a different printer, material, etc.
Right now its holding my Pebble, but hopefully soon it will be an Apple Watch.

Thanks for testing! I would agree that your outcome is, as you said, probably from using a different printer and materials. Dremmel tools are great for the inconsistent world of 3D printing, aren't they? ;)

I'm not really sure. We only had one phone to test the dock. It was a bit loose with ours because the base is meant to be used with the 1mm silicone hard case. The slot opening is about 80mm across. iPhone 6 Plus is 78mm wide. If your case adds more than 1mm of thickness on each side, it will not fit.

It worked out really well... thanks for sharing!

Awesomei Now I need an Apple Watch... :D

I need one too! The remix was to fulfill a specific request by a coworker whose Watch is shown in the picture. We thought we might as well share the results. :)
