Description
I wanted some kind of gear mechanism toy thing, and whilst the original calling card was a good start I wanted less calling card and more gear visibility.
I used Sketchup to hack the original STL files into something that works. I have uploaded them in case people want to modify them - but beware, they're not pretty!

Instructions
1. Print out the parts. (Skeinforge throws up some warnings, but it seems to print ok. Let me know if you have trouble.)
2. Align the planet gears into the crown along with the bottom part of the 'sun' gear.
3. Press the top part of the sun gear into the hole in the bottom part (this should be a tight fit, but you may have to ream the opening a little).

Very nice design, thanks! This was one of the first things I printed with my new MakerBot Replicator, and it turned out really well. I used a little dab of glue to keep the cover on, which also makes assembly easier.

The gears fit pretty well. I had a problem printing the sun gear though -- it had a covered hole, then a gap around the hole, then a single-walled gear. I wonder if the normals on the faces in the center are inverted.

If you're having trouble with the sun gear not slicing correctly check out http://www.thingiverse.com/thi... which resolves the issue, but still uses the crown gear from this. It's linked in derivitves/remixes.
