Summary

This is an iris mechanism built into a business card sized card. For simplicity and to help keep the thickness low it only has 3 leafs. This particular design does not scale well to more leafs unless it is made much larger. The initial design did have 4 leafs and is built in a way that would allow it to scale to a different number of leafs more easily. If anyone is interested I could upload that as well.

Instructions

Cut the parts out of a sturdy paper (I use .014" thick card stock) and follow the video instructions here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bybPiB00voE
Instead of the peel and stick adhesive you can just use any decent paper glue. Elmer's glue works fine, just be careful not to let any into the moving parts of the card.

All Apps

No results.

I just made one out of thick paper with an outdoor knife and some isolating tape instead of doublesided tape and it works just fine :D

Hi,
would you send me the STL format.

Hi,
great design ! Any chance this could be "printed" (in ABS with very thin layers) ?
Thanks !

Not really sure because I haven't worked with 3d printers much yet. I suspect that it would need some modifications to work with a 3d printer especially with how the joints are constructed.

Just made one with scissors, a craft knife, a glue stick, and some patience. Works well.

Hi. I would like to buy a Iris Business Card Stencil pack please. Could someone show me how to obtain one or two please? :)

I Made it, it is very cool!

I also made the 4 leged one too, it works pretty well.

I also also made one based on your design using 6 legs, it is kinda thick, but it works very well!

This is wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing! (And I would love to see the 4-segment version, BTW!)
