Considering there are AR15 lower receivers posted to Thingiverse now, I'd say you could post your revolver designs safely... and I'd love to see them.
Curious - real BP like Goex or Kix - or a substitute like Triple 7, Pyrodex, etc ?
Interesting design, I would like to see how many rounds you can get off before it does actually explode. I think its perfectly safe as long as you always expect it to explode (keep a good piece of some sort of heavy plastic between you and it when its going off), the danger is when you start treating it like it won't :P
Cool design! I had to chime in to counter-Rate tgoode's 1-star with a 5-star. Not sure if it's OK to upload a revolver style design... there's an AR magazine follower posted here that had some pretty negative comments, and that was just a plastic replacement bit that should be applauded by all. Thingiverse has some vocal opponents of the second amendment, so you'll definitely hear lots of negativity. Anyway, great work on the BB-cannon!
You're barking up the wrong tree if you're trying to turn this into a 2nd amendment thing. I objected to it on the basis of the relative safety of making a black powder cannon out of ABS. I own several rifles and pistols myself. I've been part of the firearms community up here in Canada for years.
Actually you'd be surprised at how strong this is. I've packed the barrel full of 3F powder just to test the strength, lit it with a fuze and took cover. But it just puffed out the barrel. The only way to KO this thing is if you somehow perminitly jammed the barrel closed with something. I have one of these that shoots .25 caliber slingshot ammo and can shoot through a cardboard box. I will not be posting that one for obvious reasons. And this is not the only cannon on Thingiverse. Their are more and Thingiverse has made good comments on them so these can be all bad.
That is the thing with 3d printing and abs though, it isn't always the case. Your print might be good and be able to withstand it, where the next guy might has a shitty build. With differences in extra shells and infill, a printed cannon can go from a solid brick to a fragile toy you can break with your fingers. I like the design and think the idea is cool, though I probably won't be printing one. I just wanted to help explain why people can be nervous about it. Otherwise keep up the cool designs.
I'm ok with the Sabot design, but a model Black-powder cannon of any calibre made of ABS is a bad idea. The potential for the thing to end in a KB is just too great.
