Description

This is a modification to the wonderfully simple design by nicgravel found here: thingiverse.com/thing:7484

This design is based on a 60mm LED ring. I loved the original design and actually had an 80mm ring mounted to my bot for a while, but I liked the 60mm ring better because it is closer to the extruder and highlights the extrusion better while printing. It is very easy to see how close you are above the part surface with the smaller ring.

Instructions

Buy a 60mm LED ring
Print this version
Snap in the light
Bolt to your Z-axis (no drilling, the hole exists!)
Enjoy!

I had the same fear when I printed the original 80mm design by nicgravel.

It's a short overhang, some of the filament will fall and some will hold. You'll have to clean up the ledge later with a blade, but it doesn't take long. I was actually surprised how well it printed, there will be some falling filaments, but it's not really a problem.

Just go for it and see how
it comes out.

How to you print a 90 degree overhang? :(

I can't wait to do this, but I have a noob question - where did you hook up the led ring?

I would guess he hooked it up to the 12v wires in an unused molex connector from the power supply.

I got two of these lights off of ebay for $8 shipped, they are super bright!
