Pfierce Dual PNEMAtruder 1.0 by Chooch Jun 4, 2011

Description

I've been working on this thingiverse.com/thing:5264 for a long time and with MBI's recent support of selling the high torque NEMA 17 motors, we can now use some of the heritage designs to create a direct drive, dual stepper extruder.

The original design concept comes from the awesome Printruder II, by Zaggo: thingiverse.com/thing:1980

With a dual extruder design, it opens up the possibilities of printing in two colors or two different materials, such as ABS for the main structure of the print and PVA for water soluble support material.

The offset between nozzles is 35mm.

I know some people have made there own software in the past for this. I'm sure makerbot is already working on this, it's the next logical step. I haven't had any time to work with this further or to create suitable software for it yet.

This is cool,is there softwear to support dual heads. If so can you explain how to use the dual head on my TOM.

If you say so...i'm just a guy that wants support material in my prints.

The BOM to come later in the week, it's got a decent parts list, since you need two of almost everything.

What are you extruding? Coat hangers?

Chooch on Jun 19, 2011 said:

Yes, Titanium coat hangers...then I shoot an electron beam at them to melt them to print solid titanium parts. :-P

I'm glad you rotated the stepper motors 90
°.. 8-)

One flaw I found with the Cupcake Z Platform was its ability to easily move freely up. I found this out the hard way when my Z Platform tilted backwards from the offset weight of the MK6 extruder.. :(

If only I could get it printing long enough (and reliable enough) to print upgrade par
ts.. *DONT_KNOW*

It just turned out to be the simplest solution to rotate them.

It gets expensive and time consuming to make things reliable, but eventually you'll figure out the right combination that works.

Thank you, I use AutoCAD, the rendering I did was done in Keyshot.

By the way, how is your rotational 3d laser scanner coming along?
