Bre of Liberty (Planet of the Apes Edition) by tbuser Jun 4, 2011

Description

Oh my god, they finally really did it, you maniacs! God damn you all to hell!

Super-sized version of just the head and arm to maximize detail and awesomeness.

Update: I uploaded a version of the torch with a thin wall connecting the bottom of the torch with the arm to make it a little easier to print without support.

I used a brush.

Be sure to use a natural fiber brush. It wouldn't do to have the acetone melt your brush.

How much acetone do you use and how do you apply it? Like brush some on or dip it in a cup?

If you apply it correctly, absolutely. You'll want to get enough of it on the face to soften it so that the two squish together, but not so much that it bleeds around the edges or lets the plastic squish outward. Starting with two very smooth surfaces helps, which is why it is a good idea to print the bottom part upside-down so that the parts that were against the HPB and are now kapton-smooth become the interface between the two parts.

Also, bonus points to the first person that swaps in yellow when it gets to the flame in the torch. Unfortunately I don't have enough yellow filament here. :(

I saw the picture you took after printing the top part of the Statue of Bre and I thought, "Hey! that looks like that scene in planet of the apes!"

And then you made this.

Thank you!

Instead of glue, you should use acetone or another solvent to weld them together. This worked beautifully for my Portal turret model with very little contact area needed to make a solid connection. http://www.thingiverse.com/ima...

Yeah this time I should try to use acetone, I used superglue for the other one. I haven't really played with acetone much, would it also help meld the parts together so that the seam isn't as obvious?
