The Steinmetz solid is the solid common to two right circular cylinders of equal radii intersecting at right angles. It pairs nicely with the Two Intersecting Cylinders object (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:906402).
This model was designed and printed by my WLU summer research student Emily Jaekle ('16). A description of how the model was designed can be found here: http://mathvis.academic.wlu.edu/2015/06/30/intersecting-cylinders-the-steinmetz-solid/.
This object was made on a MakerBot2X. We used the following settings:
0.20mm layer height
10% infill (hexagonal pattern)
Color matched supports
The top half of the solid looked fantastic. However, on one small part of the bottom, it looked like the plastic had melted a bit. (This may not be a problem with other printers.) Overall the object was a success.
