Description

Perhaps some will find this useful if they dont have acces to "Double Throw" relays. A variant of the ToM Extruder Relay Fix for dying extruder motors that only operates in the forward direction. Uses 2x 12volt single throw relays, 2x electrolytic capacitors and 3x 1N400X series diodes.

That is good to hear Cynar, however this "failure" is becoming an opportunity to fast track the upgrade to an MK6 extruder! I have noticed that the power supply in the Makerbot also only seems to give about 11.4v on the 12v rail. So I hope that the PSU is not about to keel over and die. I'm using a separate bench PSU and multimeter to ensure the extruder motor gets 12v, it sounds much better!

It might not be as bad as you fear. The motor issue occurs in some motors LONG before death. I most likely has many a print left in it.

There is no way to sugar coat this... my Thing-o-Matic Extruder Motor is dying. After spending several days poring over my ToM trying to nurse it back to health, I had to accept this fact. However I decided that something needed to be done! I may not have the ability to heal you, but I can at least make your final days more comfortable and productive.

BTW Much thanks to rwensley, MakeALot, CloudMaker and printthat. Without your previous work I'd likely be printerless for the foreseeable future! Also, the circuit diagram was generated using this cool online tool called webtronics, try it out here... https://webtronics.googlecode....
