ANNOUNCEMENT!!

The files for this model have been removed from this page, from now on the files can downloaded for free from www.MyMiniFactory.com. This page will be left for legacy purposes and I will still answer questions if posted.

From now on, all my future projects will feature exclusively on www.MyMiniFactory.com.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Here is the new Laser Pistol from Fallout 4 which was shown off in Bethesda's E3 conference.

Currently, this is only a solid STL as I'm still modifying the assembly but the final assembly will consist of roughly 40 parts and have a working Microfusion Cell reload mechanism. I have created the assembly in such a way that the mods that you can have on the pistol are interchangeable.

The current mods I have planned for the assembly;
Short Scope
Reflex Sight
Tactical Grip
Beam Splitter
Beam Focuser

Update 24/07/15
I have modelled some of the mods as shown off in the new render.
Once I've settled on the tolerances and printed the assembly so it fits together nicely then Ill release the files.

Update 19/08/15
Part files have now been uploaded as a .rar file. I haven't printed this yet but I know loads of you have waited long enough to print this yourselves.

Update 29/08/15
Forgot to upload 1 part ('GEARED SLIDE') for the reload mechanism.

Update 23/10/15
Uploaded a pic of my build so far, I will adjust the fits on the model and upload again once I'm done.

14/01/16
2D layout with dimensions added. Scale is 1:1 at A1, Reference dimensions added to help.

Notes:

Resolution and infill can vary on the size or strength need from each item. My average settings were; 0.5mm nozzle, 0.2mm layers, 15% infill.

Items such as the ribs that make up the underneath of the main body of the gun and the dowel I went as far as 40-50% so that I didn't comprise any strength after sanding.

Post-Printing

Pre-processing before Painting

All the dowels that make up the main body of the gun will be very tight or may not fit initially, I had done this is so that the connecting dowels can be finely sanded down. This allows a very tight fit and will give the best connection strength possible when glued as this is a very nose heavy weapon.

Printing this! Very excited

any tips on getting the MF cell level to work, the part slide etc, but where do you glue/ not glue?

The length of the grip is roughly 130mm, have my hand width at roughly 95mm, so that roughly 0.75. I would say 0.8 or 0.85 would be fine, that'll give you a little bit either side.

Would you know what scale I should use so that I can grip the handle with one hand compared to the usual 2 hands without making it look too small, preferably in a ratio scale (.8:1, .9:1, ect)?

please model the new rapper make it as a set so you have the cleaner option and the extended option

You mean Ripper and yes I have started it but I need to finish updating my pipboy model first.

I know the reload mechanism works and all, but can i see a short video or a .gif file or something that lets me see how things move and how they work? i also want to see what that looks like from a printed version. Thanks.

also, can you make a file for the long barrel and the full stock which will be compatible with this?

lilykill - in reply to

I'll see what I can do, I've tried to animate it in the software and its does not like it for some reason but I'll figure something out. As for the extras. Yes I can do but I'm waiting for the game to come out first as I want to get the base parts right before I add more stuff to it otherwise Ill just be modding again later on if something changes.

The game is out, I'm really looking forward to making one with a long barrel and full stock!

Just a note for folks, you need to print 3 of the RELOAD CHAMBER - CAPACITOR DOWEL file and 4 of the GRIP DOWEL file to complete the pistol. Its pretty obvious during assembly but means an extra trip to the printer :)

As others have said, its a fantastic sturdy design. I'll be uploading my Make of it as soon as I am done painting.

Will you be adding parts to mimic how the game lets you upgrade the pistol to the rifle later? I am in the middle of printing this now (about half way done) and love the modular decision making you did with the parts.

Yes, thats the plan anyway. Some stuff I might have to leave out as having a long stock or a large barrel extension or both will put a lot of stress on the parts which could break due to delamination. But once we have the game I will be doing the other weapons first before doing the mods for them.

Amazing work! Made a 10mm Pistol from your post, assembled well and feels sturdy. I'll be making a laser pistol soon thanks to your hard work!

cool thanks.

I feel like the pistol needs to be alot smaller, i printed the handle on mine, I have dinner plates as hands and the grip feels too large.. i will come back to you with more information later.

I know its a work in progress but alot of pieces needs to be rotated so they will print with as little support as possible, well, thats about all feedback i can give for now, i will come back later when i have printed mine!

My plan was to print it then make changes to the assembly so that'll happen once I get mine finished. As the the part orientation, this is something that can be modified before printing in your slicer software. Most parts have atleast one flat face for printing so there shouldn't be too much of an issue.

My slic3r cant rotate in the Z axis, I can only rotate it left or right and not up/down :(
But anyways, I'll post feedback after Ive printed mine, so we can see and compare if we had the same experience :)

Ok, that'll be great.

Correction, the pistol is the correct size, the handle feels too wide but its exactley the same size proportion as in the ingame screenshot.

I compared the pistol to various Fallout 3 weapons (3D model kits like the AEP-7 pistol by Dragonator) And the size seems right but the handle feels a bit odd, but later I realised it feels normal when holding it with 2 hands, maybe thats what it was intended for.

Anyways we'll have to wait and see how the character holds it ingame to better understand. Maybe he just got giant hands, more giant than my dinnerplate-hands ;)

I will have the printer running 24/7 from when I post this comment, I bought like 7 kilos of fillament so Im all set! I'll comment here again if I find anything to feedback on!

hey dude i can use cura to orientate it for you if you like and email you the g-code ? im just about finished now so 90% of my g-code has been tested on a ultimaker 2

Hey, thanks but I manage with the "NetFabb Basic" software.
I Just started printing one part of the chamber and the Microfusion cell :)

ye that would make sense. Ok thats great,

iv started printing this today if i have enough filament for the whole thing i will let you know how it goes

ok, thanks, that'll be great.

ok so i only have the chamber assembly left to print now can you do a little diagram of how the internal parts go together iv got 90% of it figured out apart from the locating pin, locator and lever flap cheers also it is a little big but for a test assembly its not bad maybe shrink the final by 10- 15 %

Looking at it again it could be shrunk about 10% really. As for the reload assembly, Ive added a image to hopefully help you.

Awesome cheers for the pic realized why i'm having trouble with the internal assembly though your missing a part i think the shroud that mates with the locating pin is not in the zip file.

Sorry, just re-uploaded the .rar with the missing part called 'GEARED SLIDE'.

nice one will let you know how it goes having printer trouble again :(

How goes progress on making the model Multi-part?

Parts files have been uploaded, happy printing.

Well, the model has always been in parts but I have just wanted to print it first. Unfortunately I haven't had time to print it but I will upload the files later. There shouldn't be any issues with the assembly, I'm just unsure on the reload mechanism which in theory works but I carnt confidently say until its physical.

Neat! Hey, I had this silly idea with a friend of mine about making FO4 prop weapons with swappable parts like in the game. Have you considered making the printed parts join/separate along the in-game crafting seams?

lilykill - in reply to juancgarcia

yes, that is what I have done for the assembly. I'm currently wokrking on some of the mods that can be interchanged with the assembly. The STL for download is only there to show the detail, once I'm happy with the assembly I'll release the parts.

This just really awesome! Request that you make the Energy Cell removable also.

It will be.

As soon as it's in parts, this is on my list to print! :)

I'm so excited for this, can't wait until it's finished!

I look forward to the finished version
