Instructions
We realized these rings in Palladium/Gold with our great jeweller, advisor, coordinator, and enabler of this all, Jerry Lake, at Lustre Precious Gems, San Jose. lustrepearls.com
The files were sent out as STL after quite a bit of prototyping and testing using Shapeways, gradually climbing up the ladder of materials from nylon, Objet-resin, to stainless and sterling silver, before having the "real thing" cast at a good goldsmith's.
Although we didn’t use them at the end in favor of a local goldsmith, the guys at castinghouse.com/ say that they “cast daily in over 40 [precious metal] alloys†from supplied STL files. Sounds like a nice complementary path, that seemlessly takes over from where Shapeways fades out, materials wise…
