HPI Savage-X camera mount

HPI Savage-X camera mount by Neophyte Jun 14, 2011

Description

I recently bought a cheap "spy-pen" camera to mount on my HPI Savage-X monster truck to record the action while playing around with it.

There isn't much place to mount the cam and the easiest in my mind is on the front bumper right behind the bull-bar.

The bumper mount provides for adjustment so you can adjust the pen cam's angle to your liking.

Obviously, only the upper half of the pen with the cam is mounted and not the full length pen.

Instructions

Remove the front upper bumper/bull-bar assembly and remove the dummy spot-lights. Fit the "hpi bumper mount" in place of the spot lights using two M3 bolts and nuts (preferably nylock nuts).

The "pen socket" is to be fitted upright "over" the bumper mount with a M3 x 16mm bolt and nut. On the front-inside of the "pen socket" are two recesses for M3 nuts. This might be a little tricky to fit and keep in place. These nuts are for the two M3 x 16mm bolts that hold the "pen socket" over the upper bar of the bull-bar. You might have to use two washers on each bolt to help prevent them from protruding into the pen socket and touching the pen's body.

Insert the pen cam and use a M3 bolt and nut at the top of the socket to pinch the socket a bit to secure the pen cam from popping out whn "driving" the monster truck over rough terrain. Adjust the pen cam's angle to your liking and tighten all bolts.
