Tension Lock - Add-on

Tension Lock - Add-on by bongoboy23 Jun 13, 2011

Description

This is a simple tension locking mechanism.

With the new MK6's ability for rapid reversal, the simple tension screw would gradually jiggle lose. And while I know there are several different designs for the new extruders that prevent this, I did not want to take a bunch of time to print and replace the old acrylic frame.

Solution? Design a lock system to prevent the screw from coming lose!
10 minutes to design, 30 minutes to print the pieces, and my quick fix is ready and working!

Note that I figured a rubber band combined with this might make it somewhat of a self tension kind of thing, but I'm still currently testing it out.

About to print Greg's extruder anyways, but I have spare parts for the acrylic.

awe cracks. Jut drill a small hole in the end of the crack and a little dob of cement. No problem.

Instructions

Print a tension lock.
Print a Locking bar. (Version 2 is much better, but both are listed).
Glue the circular part to the screw.

Tension it how you would like.
Drop the locking bar in place, as close to the correct tension as you would like.

NOTE:
Rubber band -> Self Tension?

Nice and simple!

Although I see from the pictures that your acrylic is starting to crack... you might want to print a replacement just in case.

Maybe this one: http://www.thingiverse.com/thi...

Be prepared!

Yea, thanks, I noticed it awhile ago. I have this one printed: http://www.thingiverse.com/thi...

But I also upgraded from MK5 to MK6, and happen to have some extra acrylic pieces from the upgrade lying around.
